Mark F. Swary

Vice President

I have practiced law for over forty years focusing on estate planning, estate and trust settlement and administration and family business succession planning. I am now very excited to be a founding member of Western Reserve Trust Company (“WRTC”) which is a natural extension of my many years as a practicing attorney.

I have had the opportunity to work with first, second and in many instances third generation family members who have established or who are beneficiaries of multi-generational trusts. My experience working with these individuals and families, together with the complementary and unique skills of my colleagues at WRTC, positions us well to fully understand our clients’ needs and provide unparalleled trust administration services.

Mark F. Swary has over 43 years of experience in the trusts and estates industry. Most recently, he was a partner and co-chair of the Estate Planning, Wealth Transfer & Preservation Section at the law firm of Hahn Loeser & Parks.  He specialized in estate planning, general corporate areas and the administration of estates and trusts.

His expertise is in estate planning for individuals and families.  He has worked extensively with corporate trustees, financial planners and consultants, insurance agents and accountants.  He has additional expertise in the administration of trusts and estates.  He has served as legal counsel for numerous closely held and family businesses.  His clients range from smaller, newly formed businesses to long-established substantial entities.

He is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel as well as an Ohio State Bar Association board-certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law.  He is also a charter member, past president and member of the board of directors of Attorneys for Family-Held Enterprises.

He is listed in the 1993-2017 editions of The Best Lawyers in America in the category of Trusts and Estates, as well as in the 2004-17 editions of Ohio Super Lawyers. He is AV® Preeminent™ Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, its highest available rating for general ability and professional ethics.

He received a Bachelor of Science from St. Joseph’s College and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He and his wife, Connie, live in Shaker Heights and have four adult children.
